chUrch

I wish I had a recording of a pastor from a church that I used to go to saying “chUUUrch”. It was a yelling, whooping, speeking in toungue church. And you didn’t just go to church, you went to ChUUURCCCCH!

Anyway, church was awesome yesterday. We’re still going to the new church plant near our house that we checked out a few weeks ago. It meets in a building owned by the city for events. The room that the service is held in has two walls made of windows that face out towards a park. There’s nothing like singing “The Earth is filled with HIS glory!”

At the very end of the service when the pastor is praying we all open our eyes and there are three deer standing literally right outside the front wall of windows. It was so cool to watch them after having an amazing worship service.

I had a really rough week at work last week and I’m still not ready to go back. I’m probably going to have a patient that I have had every day that I’ve worked since he was admitted, unless he’s in ICU now. Today he is supposed to have surgery, the same surgery he was supposed to have Friday but kept refusing. The problem is, if he doesn’t have the surgery he’s going to die, and soon. But, he also isn’t ready to agree to being a DNR either. So, either he has the surgery or he ends up on life support, that will probably never come off with out him dying or having the surgery. I’m not looking forward to the emotional roller coaster of that again today.

Friday I dealt with that all day. Thankfully the Dr on the case is as nice as she can be. So, I wasn’t afraid of paging her the 1 million times I had to that day. At the same time I had a prisoner who had been released from jail, so he no longer had a guard. He had um, lice, impetigo, Hep C, and who knows what else. Plus, he was going through DT’s (confused and crazy) and refused to wear any clothing. Lovely. And at the exact same time my other two patient’s heart rhythms changed, and not in a good way. One was going south (and not to Lexington) and no Dr’s would return my call. The other one ended up being fine, but there is still charting and calling of Dr’s when rhythms change.

God please help me to have a good attitude at work today!!!

Trying to find our way

So, hopefully today is the beginning of a fresh start today. It diffidently felt like God had his hand in today. Brian and I left our church, and his job at that church last summer. There are still some rough loose ends and hurt feelings left over from that. Nothing about it was anyone’s fault, just differences of personality. We loved our church and friends and really miss it. After leaving that church we had started going to another church that we really liked, but it was just too far of a drive for us to really get involved there. With me working every other weekend it has been hard to really get back into church “shopping”. Today we went to check out a new church plant near our new place. It was too funny, as soon as we walked in we ran into someone else from our old church. It was the first time both of us had been to this church and we had not spoken to each other in several months. It was good to see her after so long.

Anyway, we liked the church. I’m not sure if we’re going to look at some more churches. We’ll see what happens. But, I think getting back out there will be a part of us heeling and moving from the pst to the future.

Anyway, speaking o church, today was the Pursuit plants first service down in Miami. That is the plant our friends Alex and Erin are a part of. Their blog links are to the right. I can’t wait to hear how it went.

Making a difference

On Saturday my husband and I helped out packing food at our church. We packed enough food to feed 1,000 children per day for a year. WOW! Our church started raising money a couple months ago and this weekend was the final event. We raised around $45,000 and had over 1,000 volunteers show up that day to help pack food. The church was a mad house of organized chaos. When we got there we had to sign a two page document saying we wouldn’t sue the church if we got hurt. HA! Not a good sign for a klutz like me. Then we washed our hands, donned hair nets, and waited for someone to show us to our spot in the madness. I think Brian and I both just stood in aw when we first entered the sanctuary where all of the work was being done. There were people everywhere all working like busy bees. The first stations had people pouring food through funnels into the plastic bags.

Packing the food.

Four scoops per bag, rice, soy, seasoning, and dried veggies.

Example food packet.

Then the bags got taken to the weight tables where each bag was weighed to make sure it had the right amount of content. Then the bags were sealed, packed into boxes and loaded onto a semi. The boxes were also all be decorated on the outside by children. And of course there were runners making sure that each station didn’t run out of supplies.  The food will be shipped to Haiti and passed out to 1,000 children a day.

It was such an amazing couple of hours. It brings tears to my eyes to think of the children and families that will be blessed with this food and shown the love of Jesus by the missionaries who pass it out. I was/am so bummed that I forgot to take my camera. These are some pictures from www.iwant2dosomething.com and some pictures from my mission trip to Haiti in ‘99.
